Session Description

Session Goal
This seminar highlights key provisions of the International Mechanical Code (IMC) and provides practice in applying key requirements. It reinforces learning by supplying immediate feedback or clarification. It walks participants through the content outline of the code book and describes key sections.
Participants will be able to apply key code sections of the IMC to aid in its administration and enforcement while performing their job.

Session Prerequisites
Upon completion, participants will be better able to:
  • Summarize the purpose and content of each chapter contained in the IMC.
  • Describe the intent and application of major sections of the IMC.
  • Explain the application of the IMC through inspection, plan review, enforcement and installation.
  • Apply provisions of the IMC through plan review and inspection processes.
Participants are at the Entry Level, which means they should be able to do or know the following before they participate or use this product:
  • Has limited knowledge of construction codes and their application.
  • Knows basic construction terminology, techniques, methods and materials.
  • Reads basic construction documents.

Meet the Speaker

Gary is a member of the Government Relations (GR) Team responsible for developing, coordinating, directing and implementing programs to ensure the successful completion of the GR goals and objectives as they apply to the International Plumbing Code (IPC), International Mechanical Code (IMC) and International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), and related services and programs of the International Code Council.

In this position, Gary:
  • Provides subject matter expertise to the Government Relations Staff and other ICC Staff by developing briefing papers, guiding documents and talking points.
  • Develops and assists Government Relations field managers with written and oral testimony that supports adoption of the IPC, IMC, IFGC and ISPSC.
  • Represents ICC in federal or state coalitions, task forces, committees and councils where expertise in IPC, IMC, IFGC and ISPSC subjects is required.
  • Testifies on behalf of ICC at public hearings.
  • Represents ICC at member meetings, conferences and trade shows.

Prior to working at the International Code Council, Gary had over 40 years of experience working within the Plumbing and Construction Industry. He is a Master Plumber in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and a GFE (Gas) NH License holder.

Gary also holds an Unrestricted Construction Supervisor's License (CSL) within the state of Massachusetts and completely understands the significance of code correlation.

He is also an Adult Educational Master Plumbing and Gas Instructor and Continuing Education Instructor in the State of Massachusetts.
